Why choose bentwood chairs from Calder & Oak
The bentwood chair has survived 150 years of café service because the steam-bent frame is light, springy and very hard to break. Every piece is built for commercial use: we specify joints, fixings and finishes for daily service rather than domestic use, and we confirm materials in writing before production.
Customisation options
- Upholstered seat pad in contract fabric or faux leather
- Custom stain to match your joinery
- Armchair and bar-stool versions in the same style
- Felt or nylon floor glides
Upholstered items can be specified to the UK fire standard your venue requires (for example BS 5852 Crib 5 or BS EN 1021-1/2); we confirm the compliant foam and fabric build with your quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Are bentwood chairs strong enough for commercial use?
Yes. A steam-bent beech frame with a reinforced seat ring and screwed, glued joints is built for daily restaurant use. Ask for a contract-grade build with corner blocks for high-turnover venues.
Can I have a padded seat?
Yes. We fit a removable or fixed upholstered pad in contract fabric or faux leather, specified to the UK fire standard your venue requires.
Do bentwood chairs stack?
Classic bentwood chairs do not stack. If you need stacking, see our stackable metal café chair.
